The Return of a Legendary Tradition

Thanks to the vision and generosity of Caroline Collins of Shoestring, and Mark Newman of Dunkelman, the Master Repairer Competition is making its return in 2025

A full 24 years since it was last held in 2001. The original competition, once a highlight of the industry calendar, was last won by Peter Smith of Timpson Ltd, and it has remained a fond memory among professionals ever since.

Now, with renewed energy and support from Shoestring, this prestigious competition is back, giving a new generation of craftspeople the chance to prove their skill, earn national recognition, and take home meaningful prizes that honour their trade.

To mark the occasion, Caroline has generously provided the prize packages for this year’s relaunch, helping to reignite pride in the craft and promote excellence across the UK repair industry.

In addition to the Master Repairer event, 2025 also introduces a brand-new contest: the Shine-Off, a specialist competition celebrating the art of the perfect polish. This exciting new challenge will be hosted by Mark Newman of Dunkelman, bringing his expertise and passion for finishing excellence to the spotlight.

Together, these two competitions represent a new chapter in the legacy of craftsmanship, honouring tradition, embracing innovation, and inspiring the next generation.
